Why participate in El Cruce?
A one-of-a-kind event in one of the most beautiful seas in the world
El Cruce consists of two days of exciting racing. On the first day, swimmers will be able to participate in two circuits:
- 1.9 km circuit: a course accessible to swimmers of different levels.
- 3.8 km circuit: A longer challenge along the beautiful coast of Cancun.
On the second day, participants will face the main challenge: a point-to-point swim from Cancun Island to Isla Mujeres. This route begins at one of the most iconic beaches in Cancun, famous for its fine white sand that represents the Mexican southeast.
A spectacular natural setting
During the swim, swimmers will have the opportunity to cross two coral reefs and to swim in turquoise and crystalline waters. The depth does not exceed 10 meters and the temperature remains at a pleasant 26°C. Furthermore, the rich marine flora and fauna of the Mexican Caribbean, including manta rays, dolphins, turtles and colorful fish, will be constant company. An experience that only the Mexican Caribbean can offer.
Explore the MUSA
You cannot come to Cancun and not visit the Museum of Underwater Art (MUSA), where you can admire more than 400 submerged works made of marine concrete. Since 2011, these sculptures have hosted various marine species in cohabitation.
More than a competition, a tradition
El Cruce is not only a sporting competition, but also a celebration of Mayan culture. It offers the possibility of experiencing a historical tradition with moments sculpted by Mayan culture, such as rituals and drums that will accompany your experience during this great sporting event. The event begins with a traditional Mayan ceremony to ask the Mayan god of water and rain, Chaac, for permission to swim on this journey. The start of the race is marked by the sound of a pre-Hispanic conch, which adds a magical and ancestral touch to the experience.
Event dates
The crossing will take place from 16 to 18 May 2025. Mark these dates on your calendar and get ready to live a unique experience.
