About Carlotta Gilli

I was born in Turin on 13 January 2001 and I live in Moncalieri (TO). I am affected by Stargardt's disease, a genetically based degenerative retinopathy with autosomal recessive transmission, linked to a mutation of the ABCA4 gene, which affects approximately one person in ten thousand, usually arises in the first or second decade of life and represents one of the main causes of juvenile low vision. My vision, as my vision coefficient is defined, gradually decreased, going from 10/10 in both eyes over the course of 6 years (the vision I had at the age of 4) to 1/10 at the age of 9 years and since 2010 the vision has been stable at 1/10.

This didn't keep me away from my great love: swimming. I now compete in both the Olympic and Paralympic universes. I am a member of Rari Nantes Torino and the Fiamme Oro sports group of the State Police. I hold 11 Paralympic world records (7 in long course and 4 in short course) and I have won 23 medals (of which 17 gold) at World Championships (9 gold) and European Championships (8 gold).

Out of the water, I attend the University of Turin where I study at the faculty of Psychological Sciences and Techniques. In 2019 I graduated from the Salesian Institute Valsalice.

I am an ambassador for the Telethon Foundation, godmother of the Campioni Ogni Giorno initiative, as part of the P&G corporate citizenship program for Italy. With this latter role, I want to contribute to carrying out 2,026,000 concrete actions in Italy for people and the environment by 2026, the year in which our country will host the Milan Cortina Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
